"Japanese Wakizashi by Daido (SW1985)
Description: "A signed Shinto era wakizashi, bearing the mei “Daido" (??), measuring 19 5/8 inches in blade length. The Daido line of smiths worked during the Edo period, with branches active in Mino and Settsu provinces, producing blades in the robust style of the time. This example is housed in plain wood shira saya for preservation. The blade is shinogi-zukuri with a well-proportioned kissaki and two mekugi-ana in the tang. The nakago shows a clear mei, and the blade retains horimono (carved decoration) along the surface. The hamon is visible under light but clouded due to an older polish; a professional polish would reveal the full activity of the steel. Measurements: • Nagasa: 19 5/8" • Period: Shinto (Edo, ca. 17th century) • Smith: Signed Daido (??) • Mounts: Shira saya with copper/silver foil habaki • Condition: Blade out of polish with cloudy hamon; overall healthy shape and strong potential for restoration Price: $1,295.00 Contact Seller |
