EAGLE HEAD MOUNTED ARTILLERY OFFICER'S SABER W/O SCABBARD

Description:
F W Widmann manufactured "Warranted Never To Fail" saber with 33 inch unmarked curved blade that is etched and gilded with floral motifs, the Shield Eagle and "E Pluribus Unum" and some other arms symbols on a blued background. About 60% bright blue finish remains toning to a brown patina with scattered light oxidation and some very fine pitting along the spine. Etching retains about 95% original gold gilt thinning lightly. The gilded brass hilt has an eagle head pommel. A D-shaped guard with a grooved bone grip with double bordered braided brass wire. The guard and pommel have become a little loose over time. This is a good looking mounted artillery officer's saber that does show some use.
