Very Nice Pattern 1803 English Officer's Saber
Description: This sword features a curved, 30" blued and gilded blade with a single large fuller running to within 8" of the tip. The blade measures 9/32" thick and 1 13/32" at the ricasso. Bone gripped with the grip grooved but with windings now missing. The pommel is cast in brass with a floral pattern showing traces of silver plate remaining and the guard slotted for a sword knot. 34 3/4" overall length. The grip and guard shape is very similar to the flank officer's short saber shown at top left on page 331 in "Swords and Swordmakers of England and Scotland" by Richard H. Bezdek. Some blade corrosion, mostly on the tip, left side. No indication as to the maker. 2 martial panoplies on the left blade with liberty caps on poles no scabbard. But a fine looking sword.
