U.S. Pattern 1872 Cavalry Saber Belt (Trial Brace System) SCARCE UNISSUED
Description: U.S. Pattern 1872 Cavalry Saber Belt (Trial Brace System) SCARCE UNISSUED The Pattern 1872 Cavalry Saber Belt Brace system was adopted post-Civil War intended to better support the weight of the equipment, weapon, and cartridges on the trooper back. The system was short-lived (1872-1874,) and is very scarce today especially the cavalry saber belt. The brace system shoulder straps were abandoned by the troopers but the saber belt itself was used well into 1880. This Model 1872 belt is in remarkable condition almost looks unissued. Nicely marked "Rock Island Arsenal" with inspector initials. The brass catch is stamped with assembly numbers evidence that the military was using surplus Civil War parts. Overall the bridle leather is in very good original condition. This belt doesn’t appear to have seen much use if any. The belt is complete except for the saber straps. Just a very nice specimen of an Indian War era belt. Tight stitching with no apparent separations, loose ends, or weak points. This belt is complete with the brass saber dismount hook and all standing brass loops including the leather keeper which is almost always missing. You won’t be disappointed in this belt. This belt is 100% original and would be difficult to upgrade. Please email if you have any questions or desire additional pictures. Thank you for looking. A great addition to any Indian Wars display. New to GI but have 100% positive feedback on eBay since 1996. Also A+ rating on. Thank you for looking. Check, postal money order, or Paypal. Please add 3% for PayPal. This is for the 1872 Saber belt ONLY not the other items in the picture. Center belt in pictures. Thank you. SOLD |
