"Rare & Historic Alfred Hunter Bowie Knife Recovered from The Battle of San Jacinto (K10241)

"8 ½"blade and 13 7/8" overall length. Made circa 1835-1836. This is an early Alfred Hunter with a 4 line address on the ricasso reading “ALFRED/ HUNTER/ SUPERIOR/ CUTLERY". This knife also has the wide cross guard and Spanish notch which is only found on the very earliest Alfred Hunter Knives. This Bowie was picked up on the San Jacinto battlefield by McGrady Montgomery, a soldier from the Republic of Texas and veteran of the Battle of San Jacinto. It was passed down through his family until it was purchased from the family in 2006. There is a binder of documentation of who McGrady Montgomery was and the documentation of him being at San Jacinto. There is actually a display case at the San Jacinto Museum. There is also the full lineage from the family of McGrady Montgomery as well. According to the family, it was recovered from a dead Mexican soldier on the battle field. What is interesting to think about is how did the Mexican soldier obtain this knife? Could it have been recovered from an Alamo Defender? Unfortunately these are questions we will never know. This is a fantastic piece of Texas history directly from the family!
