Blade: AISI 440-C Sawteeth: Wood only Scabbard: Brown leather with hone pocket attached (not supplied) Knifemaker: Jean Tanazacq " ARDENNLAME" Maubert-Fontaine, Ardennes- France. This is the Model "bavi 1 " & " BAVI 2". The rare original vintage advertisement does NOT come with the knife; shown as an illustrated purpose only. This model is part of two versions of the renowned knife originally used in the movie "First Blood." The slightest variations find on each knife can be easily observed. However, the real difference lies in two minor details: the shape of the sawteeth and the final shape of the sharp cutting edge, one of which is curved while the other is straight; otherwise everything else is the same. The 9" blade has fourteen protuberant sawteeth extending along about half of the false edge, while stopping about an inch from the guard. Both models are contained in a leather scabbard with hone pocket for a sharpening stone(not provided) and made of full stainless steel construction. In theory the saw works on wood only because the sharpening of the teeth is exactly the same as the ones find on an industrial milling machine cuter or a machine saw. These are very beautiful knives, yet, very functional as a survival tool that will withstand the harsher uses. All with all knives made by Jean Tanazacq, all had a very aggressive cutting edge ready for any tasks. Along with the model RC4 these models are the most expensive of all line of knives offered by Jean Tanazacq - 757 EUROS without shipping, and custom tariff-duty fees. These knives are extremely difficult to manufacture due in part to the relatively very limited amount of machinery used by Jean. As with all others listed models these knives are the subject of two magazine articles : one domestic and the other foreign whose complete translation will be given with it, if I am able to get several copies. The US knife publication will be given with any purchased knives made by Jean Tanazacq. " BAVI 4 " Survival hollow-handled knives: Blade length : Overall length: Width: Thickness of steel stock : Handle : 26 AISI 316 L with waterproof "O" ring. Blade: AISI 440-C Sawteeth: Wood only Scabbard: Brown leather with hone pocket attached (not supplied) Thickness : Knifemaker: Jean Tanazacq " ARDENNLAME" Maubert-Fontaine, Ardennes- France.

Knife comes with a double brass guard and matching brass butt cap with waterproof "O" ring. When fitted with such handle, knife takes on a completely new look and appearance, yet, offering the same superb handling capabilities, can ne had with a stah antler handle if desired as well. Contained in a high quality leather scabbard without hone pocket for sharpening stone. Price is 757 EUROS without shipping fees, and custom clearance on arrival (duty fees). As with all others listed models this knife is the subject of two magazine articles : one domestic and the other foreign whose complete translation will be given with it, if I am able to get several extra copies. The US knife publication will be given with any purchased knives made by Jean Tanazacq since these can be obtained more easily. These series of BAVI models are the most difficult to manufacture along with the RC4 , RIX, PRAIRIE 1 and 2, FROGSEAL, ISALO AND GOLK (not shown yet). Due to the lack of sosphiticated equipment, an enormous amount of time is needed to construct these knives, The model DEPIAUTEUR despites its small size, demand the utmost care in its making as it is a very difficult model to make as well, due to its size and it is not unheard that during the making and fitting of the blade and handle something goes wrong and another knife has to be made entirely when it comes to ground, fit and make both blade and handle. That is why the base price of the latest model is high to begin with.
The model offered here is the Model " BAVI 2". The rare original vintage advertisement does NOT come with the knife shown as an illustrated purpose only; however, I'll be happy to make a photocopy for any customer. Bear in mind that thiese knives are 100% handcrafted. As opposed to most makers in the US, Tanazcaq makes his knives with the less equipment possible as you will learn when reading the artciles; he only has a milling machine, a grinder and belt sander. Anything else is truly made by hands that is why it takes in general about 4./5 days to complete any knife without the making of the leather scabbard. Along with the RC4, GOLOK, FROGSEAL, RIX, PRAIRIE 1 and 2, DEPIAUTEUR,(despites its small size due to the complex venue of the small blade and handle, any wrong moves made during the final grinding, fitting of the blade with the handle, could result in a "lost" blade, as the utmost care is required when making this articular model, therefore Tanazcaq is obliged to make another knife. In general it takes him 4/5 days to complete a knife, not counting the making of the leather scabbard. One particlular model takes two full weeks to construct (not shown yet).
