1828 Dated KLINGENTHAL FRENCH Officer’s SWORD with Curved Blade & SCABBARD FRENCH Officer’s Sword from the 1st French Empire
Description: 1828 Dated KLINGENTHAL FRENCH Officer’s SWORD with Curved Blade & SCABBARD FRENCH Officer’s Sword from the 1st French Empire Here we present an antique 1828 Dated French Officer’s Sword made circa 1828 in Paris, France. Regulation French swords of the 19th century were primarily issued by two major government manufacturers, those being Klingenthal, in the east of France and later, Chatellerault in the center of the country. At the beginning of the 18th century, King Louis XV created a state-controlled sword manufacturing company in order to limit the imports of Solingen blades to France. The Alsace province in the east of France was chosen for the availability of iron mines, forges, and wood for charcoal. In 1768, accommodations were built in a place called Klingenthal (Klingen=blades, and thal=valley), so the factory became “Manufacture de Klingenthal”. Under this name, thousands of blades were produced until the end of the 19th century. The unit marking “37.A.E. 2 .20” is on both the scabbard and the handguard. The back of the blade is marked “MANUF”re R”ale de KLINGENTHAL, 8 1828 s.a.” The overall condition is very good. The hilt is solid all around. “1396” is marked on the ricasso. The blade has a light patina but remains fairly bright. The overall length is 35-1/2 inches. Here is a fantastic French officer sword from the tumultuous 19th Century! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
