Hand-Forged JAPANESE Wakizashi Nihonto SAMURAI Companion SWORD Antique
Samurai Style Wakizashi Close Quarters Fighting Sword
Description: Hand-Forged JAPANESE Wakizashi Nihonto SAMURAI Companion SWORD Antique Samurai Style Wakizashi Close Quarters Fighting Sword Here we present an antique Japanese Wakizashi Sword. The wakizashi is literally translated, “side inserted sword,” as it was worn on the left side in the waist band. It was used as a backup sword, for close quarters indoor conflicts, or seppuku (suicide). When worn together with a katana, it would distinguish the wearer as a samurai. There was a Japanese custom of leaving your katana at the door when visiting a castle, or palace. So naturally, to remain armed, you’d bring your wakizashi or tanto along as these were allowed. This sword features a black sharkskin tsuka (grip) wrapped with tightly twisted cloth. The entire sword is usually held together by the mekugi (small bamboo pin) in the middle of the tsuka. Though the Japanese had adopted several more Western designs for military blades, this one was still based on the traditional Japanese sword with a slightly curved blade ending in a piercing, angular point. The katana ha (cutting edge) is still fairly sharp. There are what appears to be swordsmith’s markings on the tang. More than likely this sword was hand forged, rather than factory machine made since these markings are present. This little sword has been there and done that. The mune (back of the blade) has a few dents. The Ha (cutting edge) has little to no dings. The tsuka is in fair shape, the cloth is wound tight. Some of the original plastic around the wood is chipping from the scabbard. The mekugi is missing, thus this sword does not stay together in one piece. The tsuba (guard) is loose. The kojiri is missing from the scabbard, even still, the blade does not poke through. Would be a great little display piece next to a katana completing the daisho! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Blade length is 18-1/14 inches. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1175 #191114 SOLD Antique: Yes |
