Sawtooth #9 World's Largest Bear Trap Newhouse # 6
Description: Sawtooth # 9 world's largest functional leghold trap. History: In the spring of 1893 Newhouse, the world's leading manufacturer of traps, made the Newhouse #999 to display at the World's Fair in Chicago Illinois. This trap was known as "the elephant trap", with a jaw spread of 32" a length of 8 feet, and a total weight of 400-450 pounds. The chain alone weighs 100 pounds and measures 10 1/2 feet in length. The Sawtooth #9 was made with offset jaws and riveted teeth brazed in brass, just like Sewell Newhouse did in the 1800's. The Sawtooth #9 has a jaw spread of 36", a length of approximately 9 feet, and a total weight of close to 700 pounds. The chain weighs approximately 200 pounds and is 12 1/2 feet in length. The chain links are all handforged, 1 1'4" in diameter and 6" links. There are many hand stamps on the trap as well, some of these are shown in the pictures. The small trap in the photos is a Newhouse #6 bear trap, the largest made at the time to catch grizzly bears. The last photo shows an actual Newhouse #6 tooth compared to a Sawtooth # 9 tooth. This truly unique trap would make an excellent display in a large sporting goods store, hunting lodge, museum, or anywhere you would like to attract a lot of attention. The trap can be taken apart and shipped on a pallet, or I could transport the trap a reasonable distance also. I can only post fifteen photos on the site, so if you need more photos or additonal information, please give me a call. Thankyou. Price: POR Contact Seller |
