Rare Smokeless 45-85 WCF Express Ammo w/ overstamp

Description:
This is a full box, 20 original rounds, of .45-85-300 ammunition manufactured by Winchester with 300 grain Metal Patched hollow Express Bullets. The rare two piece, square corner Smokeless Powder Express box has a special over label stating " THESE CARTRIDGES ARE NOT REGULAR / SPECIALLY LOADED TO ORDER" and this variety of Smokeless is not represented in Giles & Shuey's book on Winchester ammo boxes. The box is in very good condition, solid, with old repairs to a top corner crush with some light age soiling and mild staining. The original wood inserts are present to elevate one row of shells. The top label itself seems to be an over label with hints of the original darker green label underneath. The cartridges slightly age darkened are in near excellent condition. A scarce caliber with a rare loading in an uncataloged box.
