UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE COMPANY .44 COLT CENTER FIRE CARTRIDGES

Description:
Manufactured by the Union Metallic Cartridge Company, this complete, full box bears the very collectable “Cartridge Picture” label, which features an image of the cartridge with the legend “.44 COLT’S” superimposed on the cartridge.  The use of “CENTRAL FIRE” rather than “CENTER FIRE” on the top label indicates this box was manufactured prior to 1885 and is one of the very desirable early production runs. Full boxes with complete legible labels and the original cartridges from this era are becoming increasingly difficult to find, and this box is a particularly nice example. Label is torn, but present. Full boxes of the desirable .44 Colt caliber revolver cartridges.  Introduced as a US Army cartridge in 1871 with the Colt Richards Conversion revolvers, the .44 Colt proved to be a durable cartridge through the late 1800’s and commercial loadings were still offered in the early 1900’s before it finally was declared obsolete.
