Packet of Combustible Cartridges for the Colt 1860 .44 Revolver by Elam O. Potter of New York, NY, Unopened
Description: One unopened package of six cartridges made by Potter, using Hazard's powder and made using the Johnston & Dow patented collodion-covered material. The label contains a lot of information. “JOHNSTON & DOW’S / WATERPROOF & COMBUSTIBLE / CARTRIDGES, / Manufactured By / Elam O. Potter, New York, U.S. / For Colt’s Army Pistol, Cal. .46.100 / With Powder made expressly for these Cartridges by the / HAZARD POWDER CO.” The Ordnance Manual for the use of the Officers of the United States Army apparently specifies a .46 caliber, 216 gr conical ball for Colt M1860 revolvers of .44 caliber. The 546 page manual is viewable online but you'll have to search to find what it says about the revolver ammunition. The pack is in excellent condition. The label shows minor wear and discoloration with age but no losses. The paper is intact, with no protrusions or openings. The string is untouched.
