Johns' Patent 16 Gauge Automatic Sporting Shrapnell Shells

Description:
An extremely rare box of 16 gauge Johns' Patent Automatic Sporting Shrapnell Shells. Interesting two piece eggshell like segments held together by a wire spindle. A complete description and history, ( IAA article July/Aug '05), will be included with the box. There are 8 original shells along with their spindles and wadding. The 1884 patent covered the inventor of the shells J.W. Johns. The label flap states that they were manufacturered by Alexander Kirkwood & Son, Edinburgh. This is the only box of 16 gauge shrapnell shells I have ever come across, it will make a great addition for any advanced collector.
