The Eau Claire Ordnance Plant was part of the 4th Wave of plant expansion that occured during WWII. It was run by the U.S. Rubber Company and was set up to produce Cal. .30 Ball, Armor Piercing and Incendiary ammunition. Production started on August 25, 1942, and from that date until September 7, 1942, the headstamp "EC" was used. After that date, the headstamp was changed to "EW" so as to avoid confusion with ammunition produced at the Evansville Ordnance Plant. The headstamp changeover was also seen on the cartons from that period. Production ended at Eau Claire in December 1943 after producing over 600 million rounds of Cal. .30 ammunition. The Eau Claire Ordnance Plant label has the unique WWII red stripe, which identified the contents as Ball ammunition, the headstamp changeover in late 1942, and a hand-stamped lot number.
