This exceptionally scarce pre-ban Chinese military surplus ammunition crate represents one of the most collectible surviving examples of Cold War-era Chinese ammunition imported into the United States before the 1989 import restrictions. Unlike loose ammunition or previously opened crates, this example remains completely unopened exactly as it left the importer decades ago. The original steel tension straps remain intact, preserving the sealed wooden transit crate and its hermetically sealed internal steel ammunition tins.

The front of the crate prominently displays the iconic white "KENG ATLANTA GA" triangle stencil, immediately identifying it as an original import handled by Keng's Firearms Specialty, Inc. KFS was the premier American importer of Poly Technologies and other Chinese military firearms and ammunition during the 1980s. Their markings have become highly desirable among collectors because they represent the earliest and most sought-after era of legal Chinese military imports into the United States.

The original Keng's shipping label remains affixed to the lid, further enhancing the crate's provenance and historical significance. Surviving labels are frequently torn away or damaged after decades of storage, making this an increasingly uncommon feature. Together with the intact import stencil, the crate tells the complete story of its journey from Chinese military production through one of America's most legendary surplus importers.
The unopened crate is believed to contain its complete original military issue of 1,100 rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition, factory packed on original 10-round steel stripper clips inside sealed galvanized steel "spam cans." Ammunition from this period is widely recognized for its copper-washed steel cases, Berdan corrosive primers, and standard Chinese mild steel core full metal jacket projectiles. Because the internal tins remain sealed, the ammunition has remained protected from environmental exposure since importation.

Factory-sealed Keng's ammunition crates have become increasingly difficult to locate, especially examples retaining both the original shipping label and unopened transit configuration.
