Comments: New Old Stock Auto-5, 20-gauge, 2-3/4”, 26” vent rib barrel made in Belgium during some of the last production runs by FN in Belgium for Browning in the US. Note the unique barrel address which states, “Made in Belgium by Browning S.A.” These barrels were originally stored by Browning in their warehouse until they sold off all their “obsolete” firearm parts to several parts distributors across the US and Canada. These did not have barrel boxes but were stored in bulk with a thin film of protective grease covering the barrels, foil type strip along the vent rib, and heavy plastic sheathing outside.
The original barrel was a fixed Full choke but the choke size was opened to a true Modified choke size by a master gunsmith and machinist, John Powers of Powers Metal Works. The Modified choke size was created properly using the actual shotgun bore size which varies slightly from barrel to barrel. The barrel was also stamped with an additional asterisk to denote the Modified choke size (**).
Note that the polished bluing along the barrel looks a bit dull in some of the photos as that is due to the original preservative coating.
