Description:
This Lee-Metford bayonet measures 16 1/2" overall, with an 11 7/8" straight,, double-edged blade having numerous markings on either side of the ricasso, including: "WILKINSON LONDON" maker stamp, "X" bend test stamp, "(crown) / VR", 6/96 date stamp, and "(Broad Arrow) / WD" proof. The blade has a cleaned, bright patina, while the hilt furniture has a dark, plum-brown color. The wooden grips have minor handling marks, and fairly crisp military stamps, as well as an issue stamp on the pommel: "L / C.A.M. / 228". The correct scabbard has non-matching issue numbers, and has gray-brown freckling on both the throat and chape. Additionally, there are light scuffs and minor blemishes on the leather body. This is a handsome, 1896 dated Patt. 1888 bayonet, and rates fine condition overall.
