Civil War Era Austrian M1849 Augustin Sword Socket Bayonet

This is a Civil War Era Austrian M1849 Augustin Jäger & Pioneer Carbine Long Sword Socket Bayonet without the scabbard. The 23 ½" single edged, fullered blade is in very good condition, no warps or dings and nice tip. Light surface oxidation, heavier near the tip. Marked on the spine and both sides of the elbow and a clear "27." on the right side of the nearly 4 ¼" socket. This is a massive sword bayonet with a total length of 28 ½". These were also imported in some number during the U.S. Civil war, along with obsolete Augustin Muskets & Carbines, which had been superseded by the superior Lorenz Rifle.;
