Description:
FRENCH MODEL 1866 OR M1866 CHASSEPOT RIFLE SABER BAYONET & SCABBARD. 27 1/2" overall with 22 3/4" fullered blade. Blade is excellent with original false edge and no dings/chinks and never been sanded. Crisp proofs at ricasso with hand engraved and stippled "Mfe Imp de St. Etienne 10bre 1867" on back of blade. Tight fit to brass handle and steel guard/quillon with serial number(not mathcing but close in number). Good tension on catch spring. Old patina on brass and never cleaned. Original steel scabbard (no dents or kinks)with nice tight fit so does not rattle around and perfect fit.
