Chinese Zhou/Chou Dynasty Bronze Spearpoint
Description: This is a Chinese Zhou/Chou Dynasty Bronze spearpoint which measures 8" overall, with a 5" angular, leaf-shaped blade, elongated towards the point. The blade has raised central ridges on either side. The socket is tapered and measures just over 3/4" at the mouth with a few small chips. It has a raised, integral grommet and no drilled holes. The bronze has developed a pleasant mottled brown and green patina over time, along with further spots of bright green oxidation scattered about, as well as ingrained dirt and soil where the metal has roughened through oxidation. This is a splendid relic of of the late, "Eastern" Zhou/Chou Dynasty (1046 to 256 BCE). This spearpoint is described and pictured in "Chinese Bronze Age Weapons" By Max Loehr, published by University of Michigan Press. SOLD |
