Civil War British #5 Pattern 1861 Enfield Sergeants' Tool
Description:
The #5 Pattern 1861 tool was improved by adding a tiny screwdriver blade to the end of the threaded arm that held the wiper. This tiny screwdriver blade was intended to engage the tiny tension screw in the newly adopted Baddeley Patent barrel bands that were added to the Enfields produced by the London Armory Company and the Royal Small Arms Factory at Enfield Lock during 1861. This example is in very good original condition, is unmarked and shows years of use. The top screws off and is sealed by a leather washer, which looks original. Approximate dimensions, 4 ¼" x4 1/8".;
