Civil War Canteen Albert Jewett & Co.
Stamped "A. Jewett" vertically on the pewter spout, the spout shows a small lip around top. This is one of only 200,000 canteens made by Jewett under an Aug 12, 1864 contract for the New York Depot at 75 cents each. It has three flattened strap loops with chain holding the typical New York Depot stopper with full tin cap on cork and odd shaped nut with no washer. Covered with period hand sewn butternut felt showing strap wear and stains and some minor burn or insect holes on each side. The pewter spout shows some impact damage to one side of lip. A very good example of this late Civil War canteen.
