CIVIL WAR Dated Antique C. ROBY U.S. Model 1860 Light CAVALRY SABER Rare American Civil War Cavalry Blade
Description: CIVIL WAR Dated Antique C. ROBY U.S. Model 1860 Light CAVALRY SABER Rare American Civil War Cavalry Blade Here we present an antique U.S. Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber, made circa 1863 in West Chelmsford, Massachusetts by the Christopher Roby Company. Christopher Roby maintained a steady business making items like scythes and other farm implements until the embargo on the South during the American Civil War caused him to seek other product lines to make ends meet. In 1862 he began contracting with the U.S. to provide several different models of sword. His wartime production of swords numbered 48,410 compared to hundreds of thousands produced by companies like Ames. Roby was commissioned on September 5, 1864 to raise up his own local cavalry, of which he was elected Captain, to be protectors against Confederate raids in northern Massachusetts. Unfortunately, the company was bankrupt by 1867, a mere 2 years after the end of the war. The overall length is 41 inches with the blade measuring 35 inches. This saber would have been used in the American Civil War by Union Horsemen. The overall condition is very good. “US/1864/AGM” is marked on the right ricasso and “C ROBY/W. CHELMSFORD/MASS.” is marked on the left. The blade is semi-bright. The hilt is solid, although the twisted wire wrap has some movement. Minimal dings on the blade are present. The scabbard is in good shape with the finish maturing to a brown patina. Here is a fantastic example to display and collect. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1075 #200814 SOLD Antique: Yes |
