Civil War period Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber with crowned “GG” Solingen import mark and original scabbard
Description:
Civil War period Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber with crowned “GG” Solingen import mark and original scabbard. Untouched example showing honest age, original patina, and correct three-branch guard configuration.
Offered here is an original Civil War period Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber with steel scabbard. The ricasso is stamped with a crowned “GG” mark, consistent with Solingen, Germany manufacture. During the American Civil War, large numbers of cavalry sabers were imported from Solingen to supplement U.S. production, making these German-import examples historically correct and highly collectible.
The sword features the classic three-branch brass guard, curved single-edged blade, leather-wrapped grip with wire, and matching steel scabbard with suspension rings. The blade shows honest age, patina, and surface spotting consistent with 19th century service. The grip retains original leather with expected wear from age. The scabbard shows period oxidation and remains structurally solid.
This sword has NOT been polished or aggressively cleaned. It remains in untouched collector condition with original patina preserved. Good antique condition with age-related wear, oxidation, and grip loss typical of Civil War sabers. Please examine all photos carefully as they form part of the description.
This saber has excellent original age and untouched patina, making it a strong candidate for period display, reenactment reference, or historical film and television prop use where authentic Civil War era pieces are desired.
A strong example of a Civil War era cavalry saber, ideal for collectors, historians, or display.
