This is a Hi-Grade G.W. Simons, Philadelphia" U.S. Civil War Model 1850 Staff & Field Officers Sword With An Eagle Quillion With Ruby Eyes In Fine Plus Condition. All original and complete. The sword has an excellent blade which is engraved 3/4 of the way down with U.S. Military Motifs on it. It retains most of its polish and frosting on it. The blade is marked in an oval panel "G.W. SIMONS, PHILADELPHIA". The guard, basket, and pommel are deluxe engraved. There is a very fine engraved Eagle Head Quillion on it with ruby eyes in it. The solid grip is either silver or bronze. The entire grip, guard and basket have their original gold gilt on them. The original leather scabbard is fine with deluxe fittings on it. The top one has a large entwined "U.S.' in it. The Middle one has a floral design on both sides. The drag has A "U.S. and Shield" on one side and a "shield" on the other. All of the scabbard fittings retain most of their gold gilt.
