Here we present an antique Patriotic Officer’s Saber by Clauberg, made circa 1861 in Solingen, Prussia. This blade is deeply etched with patriotic American symbolism on both sides. One panel is marked “U.S” while the other features a large federal eagle with spread wings and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” in a banner in its clutches. The hand guard likewise has this motif case into it for a particularly handsome appearance. This Latin motto is featured on the Great Seal of the United States and translates to “out of many, one”. This phrase was and remains important to this country which is united though made of many different states. It held a special significance during the American Civil War as this was a conflict centered around member states’ ability to leave the union.
The overall length is 37-1/2 inches with the blade measuring 31 inches.
The overall condition is very good. Bright. The hilt is solid, the hand guard has a small amount of movement. The handle’s rayskin grip is firm. The scabbard is in very good condition. A fabulous piece of history in fantastic condition!
