Scarce Civil War British New Pattern 1859/60 Enfield Cartridge Pouch
Description: This is a dark brown leather cartridge box with integral cap pouch and tool pocket. The buff leather cover has stiffened slightly with age, and has numerous small surface scuffs and minor blemishes across the surface, while the bridle leather body has crazed and lightly flaked on the exposed portions. The inner cover is still intact, however the seams holding the side panels on have mostly separated. The five compartment tin insert is still present and intact, and the buff leather closure tab is still flexible and functional. The shoulder strap buckles on the floor of the box were removed long ago, and rather skillfully made tin waist belt loops (probably fashioned from the insert of a different cartridge box) were added by a previous user. This is a fine example of a scarce Civil War era cartridge box, with a neat battlefield modification/repair, and is in very good plus condition overall. SOLD Manufacturer: Enfield Model: Pouch |
