Antique Express Co's. Registered pouch.
Description: Here's a rare antique, 19th Century leather express pouch. These were used by Wells Fargo, Adams and American Express companies as well as the railroads. The "Registered pouch was carried right along with the Wells Fargo strong box and often had more valuables than the box it's self." It has a handle attached to the back. The flap is secured with a strap run through 3 steel loops on the front. The strap attaches to a hasp on the back with a padlock. The included pad lock is a reproduction" This was a very rugged, old express mailbag with heavy duty rivets around the bottom and leather straps on both sides.. The handle is attached with steel rivets and also sewn on. It shows reddish brown oiled finish along with the scars and abuse of years of hard service. It has a great look with rich coloring and will add much to a display of stagecoach, railroad or outlaw collectables. The leather is in a condition that shows its age. It would look right in place on a frontier stagecoach or on board an early steam train express car. The belt is still intact and attached to its original brass latch at the end. Despite all the heavy loads this pouch has carried, even the bottom of this pouch is still attached. For it's age this bag would display very well. It measures about 18 inches tall, 12 inches tall, and about 4 1/2 inches wide. There is a makers metal tag marked Security Canvas Products Corp. that pictures chain links around its boarder. It was an important piece of express and postal history that you don't find everyday. This would be a wonderful addition to a mining display, express collection or outlaw loot and strong box. I have added a reproduction iron padlock with keys just for fun. Other items show are not included. Payment: Item, can be ordered on line with a credit card or paypal on our sight. Just Google (riverjunction) and type in the River Junction Trade Co. item number (6392) in the search box. Before you checkout you will see shipping cost and total. OR If you prefer: Pay by cash, postal money order, cashiers check, personal & business checks. We wait for checks to clear. We always answer questions and entertain offers. Have questions?
