Museum Quality original Indian tanned Frontiersman Shirt.
Description: This is an original, antique, tobacco colored, indian tanned buckskin shirt/coat. Beautifully sewn, likely on a hand cranked sewing machine. This shirt was made about 1840 to 1850. It was made of native tanned deer skin. EVERY STITCH IS PERFECTLY SEWN and not a single stitch is missing or loose. Around each button hole is the hand stitching and the stitching is very close together. The remaining buttons are REAL HARD RUBBER, three of the original 6 are missing but could easily be replaced if you like. Long leather fringes are around the shoulders, pockets and bottom, while shorter fringe is around the collar. Their are three pockets, two breast pockets and one inside pocket. The breast pockets are pouch shaped (bigger at the bottom than at the top, with the top cut on a curve, designed to keep thing from falling out. The inside pocket is very deep could carry valuables or perhaps 5 inch barreled 1849 Colt pocket model. Just the thing for a Pony Express rider. The only damage I see is that the collar buttonhole has been torn out (repairable) and the hanging loop has been pulled loose (see photo). This garment has many unique feature, we have tried to show in the photos. The cuff styling is a feature that denotes the age of this garment. This shirt/coat is a 38 inch chest measurement and would fit the average Civil War Soldier of the time. This is of museum quality and certainly tells a story of the American West. Shirts of this style were often made by Indian women for Cavalry Officers during our westward expansion and can be seen in old photos of early cowboys . The accompanying props are not included. Rare to find as these were often used up. Great for a museum, cowboy room antique gun display. From the real west. We always answer questions and entertain offers. Payment Cash, postal money order, cashiers check, personal & business checks. Can be ordered with a credit card or paypal at wxx.riverjunction, cxx just type in the number 5158 in the search box.
