WWI British Brodie Mk1 Steel Helmet 1917-18
Description:
This is an original WWI British Brodie Mk1 Steel Helmet approximate date 1917-18. This helmet is in near excellent condition with heavy brush painted finish, signs of years of use, onset of oxidation, small dents and scrapes. This helmet is stamped H.V. / 569 on the underside of the front rim. The "H" indicates that the helmet was made by Hutton and Sons Ltd. of Sheffield (they produced helmets beginning in 1915). The "V" stands for the steel supplier, Vickers Ltd. of Sheffield (they began supplying steel in 1916). The "569" is the heat treating lot number of the steel used to press the helmet, best date I can find for the heat treating date of 1917 to 18. The liners is correct with some stitching loose, the leather chin strap is in very good condition and secured, near complete netting system with the string intact. The wool head liner is intact with the rubber ring still present. Over-all a great example of a WWI Mk1 helmet.
