Original Japanese WWII Senninbari 1000 Stitch Belt with Rising Sun, Temple Stamps
Description: This is very rare in it's orginal condition & do not often come on the market. A US Marine Vet bring back Japanese Senninbari (??? thousand-person-stitches) is a strip of cloth worn around the waist under the uniform decorated with 1000 knots or stitches, and each stitch was normally made by a different woman. Senninbari were given as an amulet by women to soldiers on their way to war as a part of the Shinto culture of Imperial Japan. At the top center is a Hinomaru ( ??? - "Sun Round"), or Japanese sun emblem. Around this are the usual Kanji seen on a "Good Luck" flag: ? ? ? ?, which reads Bu un Chou kyu ("May your military fortunes be long lasting."). There are also the Japanese Army and Navy symbols. A pocket which often held Items from loved ones(letters, pictures etc) & sometimes a few coins. Made from silk with a few small tears. Stained in various places. Otherwise solid & not falling apart.
