WW2 Bring Back Japanese Imperial Army Officer’s Sword (Shin-Gunto)
Description:
This is a handsome sword and is stamped on the tang opposite the painted serial number: "10 / 0 / 7 / 3". The sword measures 37 3/4" overall, with a a blade that measures 25 3/4" to the brushed white metal ferrule (habaki). The steel has a bright gray patina with some small areas of thin freckling along either side. The temper line is straight and still strongly visible on either side. The hilt has numerous sheet metal spacers (seppa), while the guard (tsuba) has an Imperial Japanese Army cherry blossom motif. The grip has both the original white sharkskin cover which has shrunk over time and exposed some of the underlying wooden form, and the silk wrap is intact. The hit ferrules and pommel cap (fuchi & kashira) are standard Imperial Army issue and the sword is housed in an excellent olive-painted metal scabbard with standard Army mounts. An original brown cord lanyard is attached to the pommel bail. This is a very good-fine example of a WW2 Japanese Shin-Gunto, and would make a great addition to any collection.;
