"Katana Signed “Bizen Kuni Ju Osafune Sukesada" — Muromachi Period Blade in WWII Military Mounts (SW2010)
Description: "This katana is signed by the renowned Sukesada line of Osafune in Bizen Province, one of Japan’s most prolific and respected swordmaking families. The blade is forged in shinogi-zukuri form with a pronounced koshi-zori and measures 24.875" (63.2 cm). The hamon is a lively gunome-midare, extending through the length of the blade into a well-formed kissaki. • Signature (mei): ????????? (Bizen Kuni Ju Osafune Sukesada Saku) • Period: Muromachi era (c. 1500s) • Nagasa (cutting edge length): 24.875" (63.2 cm) • Motohaba (width at the machi): 31.2 mm • Motokasane (thickness at the machi): 6.92 mm • Construction: Shinogi-zukuri, iori-mune, pronounced koshi-zori • Hamon: Gunome-midare • Nakago: Ubu, one mekugi-ana, mei on the omote, patina consistent with age • Mounts: WWII shin-gunto military koshirae including regulation tsuka with brown ito wrap, brass tsuba, and saya Notes: This blade began life in the Muromachi period, signed by the Sukesada line of Osafune, and was later remounted for service during WWII.
