Pre-War US Marine Corps NCO Sword by Hilborn-Hamburger
Description: This is pre-WW2 sword that measures 38 1/4" overall, with a 32 5/8" curved, single-edged blade having half-length etched panels and wide single fullers. The steel is in excellent condition, with the bright, original factory polish, and an acid-etched USMC scrollwork motif on both sides. The ricasso is marked with the Hilborn & Hamburger trademark and "MADE IN / SOLINGEN / GERMANY." The hilt has tarnished brass with pierced counterguard, single forward-swept quillon, and Phrygian helmet pommel with traces of the original gilt finish on protected areas. The leather grips has some wear and the braided wire wrap is intact. The original scabbard has tarnished brass fittings with "GERMANY" marked throat, and some russet brown streaking along the chape along the sides of the drag. The black leather body has some minor crazing and scuffs, with some flaking along the seam. This is a very good plus USMC NCO sword, and would make a nice addition to a collection of 20th century American military swords. SOLD |
