"Japanese Katana with WWII Officer Mounts (SW1971)
Description: "This is a traditionally-made Japanese katana, mounted in Imperial Army officer koshirae. The blade measures approximately 26.25" and features a wide body with long o-kissaki and graceful curvature (toriizori), typical of the late Edo shin-shinto revival style. The blade shows a prominent notare-midare hamon with bright activity and a well-forged itame hada visible in the ji. The nakago is ubu (unshortened) with a single mekugi-ana, unsigned (mumei). Condition is good with a relatively recent polish that displays the temperline and grain clearly. The sword is accompanied by WWII-era gunto officer mounts, including gilt brass tsuba, fuchi-kashira, and menuki, as well as traditional tsuka-maki. This type of koshirae was commonly fitted for older family blades carried by Japanese officers during the Second World War. Overall, this is a fine example of a genuine Japanese katana forged during the shin-shinto period (late Edo, circa 1780–1860) and remounted for use in WWII. It represents both the long martial tradition of the samurai and the later history of 20th century Japan. Price: $2,795.00 Contact Seller |
