"A very fine and extremely handsome presentation grade foot officer’s sword with ornate scabbard by Schnitzler & Kirschbaum of Solingen. The hilt is a fairly standard 1850 hilt, although there is a nicely engraved Union Shield on the pommel. The grip is extremely nice, being black ray skin with triple wire wrap. The blade has a very large “Schnitzler, Kirschbaum Solingen" etched on the ricasso. The blade is wider than most, and is extremely bright and clean, with a large spread-winged American Eagle standing on a ribbon reading “E Pluribus Unum" on one side and a large “U.S." on the other side. The scabbard is blued with brass mounts. The mounts are hand engraved with a combination of flowers and rays over wheels. Dimensions: The blade is 32 inches long. The sword and scabbard are 40.5 inches long. The sword is in excellent condition, with a brilliant blade, and the hilt is as well. The scabbard is excellent, with nearly perfect blued finish and especially finely engraved mounts. There is a dent in the steel just above the drag. The drag is missing its screw. Austin location.
