"Rare Japanese Shrine Sword (SW2013)
Description: "A rare and imposing Japanese honoto (shrine dedication sword), measuring 39.5 inches in cutting length with a width of 1.625 inches. Unlike combat swords, this oversized odachi-style blade was produced for ceremonial and religious purposes. One side bears the inscription ???? (“Respectfully Dedicated to Military Glory"), while the other reads ?????? (“Respectfully Dedicated to Kurahachi Shrine"), each flanked by chrysanthemum crests of Imperial association. Such swords were typically offered at Shinto shrines as acts of devotion or patriotic dedication, particularly during the late Meiji through Showa periods. The sheer size, bold inscriptions, and imperial symbolism make this a highly unusual and significant example of a shrine dedication blade, suitable as a centerpiece in a collection of Japanese militaria or religious artifacts.
