"U.S. Model 1872 Cavalry Saber Carried by Lt. Leighton Finley of the 10th Cavalry (SW1215)
Description:
"U.S. Model 1872 Cavalry Saber Carried by Lt. Leighton Finley of the 10th Cavalry. This beautiful saber was carried by Lt. Leighton Finley of the 10th Cavalry. Lt. Finley is best known for his helping in pursuit of Geronimo! Lt. Finley was also actively engaged in many campaigns against the Apaches. The D-guard does show some damage along with a dent in the scabbard. On October 26th, 1893, while on drill, his horse was struck by another and fell to the ground. This caused his left leg to be crushed. He would later die from the wound he sustained, on February 12th, 1894. It is assumed he was carrying this saber when the accident happened. Saber is beautifully engraved with his name on one side and U.S. on the other. Sword is made by Schuyler Hartley and Graham out of N.Y. This sword is a rare piece for any Indian Wars and Buffalo soldiers collector.
