"US Model 1840 Cavalry Sword by Tiffany (SW1376)

"An exceptionally nice Civil War saber and scabbard imported by Tiffany of New York. The blade is stamped “Tiffany & Co. New York" on one side of the ricasso, and “PDL" in an oval on the other. PDL stands for Paul D. Luneschloss, one of the best Solingen sword makers. The sword is similar to the US 1840 cavalry saber except for the iron guard. It is in extremely nice condition, with all of its original leather and iron wire on the grip, an extremely nice blade retaining some of its original polish, and a very nice scabbard with no dents. Dimensions: The blade is 35.75 inches long. The sword in its scabbard is 43 inches long overall. Very good and better overall. The hilt and grip are excellent. The iron has a particularly nice patina to it. The blade is very good or better. It is generally grey, but the original polish marks are visible, and it is free of any rust with one minor stain by the point. The scabbard is in very good shape, with a darker patina, but no rust, one small dent on the reverse, and generally very nice. This is as nice an original, untouched Tiffany enlisted saber as we have seen.
