83RD REGT. OF FOOT BRITISH PATTERN 1845 OFFICER’S SWORD & SCABBARD BY HENRY WILKINSON SERIAL #16232. Identified in Wilkinson’s records as ordered by the Hon. E. Gifford in 1869. Ederic Frederick Gifford was san officer in the 83rd Regiment of Foot which became the Irish Rifle Regiment both of which saw extensive service throughout the late Victorian era. 39” o/a with etched and engraved 32 ½” maker signed and serial numbered blade which has most of the original polish and is finely etched with British martial motifs. Right side of the blade beautifully relief engraved with Gifford’s initials in an ornate cartouche. Shark skin grip wrap original braided grip wire. Gilded brass hilt with much off the gold remaining. Excellent nickel plated scabbard with all the nickel and no dents. With letter and picture of the original Wilkinson order book record of the sword by serial number.
