ARTILLERY OFFICER'S PRESENTATION SABER W/O SCABBARD
Description:
F W Widmann manufactured "Warranted Never To Fail" saber with 30 inch unmarked curved blade that is etched and gilded with stands of flags on a blued background. The blued surfaces retain about 75% original finish with some flaking and a bit of scattered light oxidation and some spots of pitting. The etching retains about 95% original gilt with some loss due to oxidation. The gilded brass hilt has an eagle head pommel. P-shaped guard. An embossed Federal Eagle with stippled background on one side and a plain langet on the other. Ivory grip is in very good condition having turned a cream color. A good looking officer's saber that shows it was carried. Early 1820's manufacturing.
