Description: PRESERVING AMERICAN HISTORY, CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE HAMMOND MARSHALL ATLANTA GEORGIA CAVALRY SWORD WITH AN ORIGINAL WOODEN SCABBARD. PUBLISHED IN BOOK. HAMMOND MARSHALL ONLY MADE SWORDS FROM 1861 TO 1864, VERY RARE WITH ORIGINAL SCABBARD, THIS IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST EXAMPLES IN EXISTANCE.NOT MANY COME TO MARKET, FROM ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT COLLECTIONS, THE PERSONAL MUSEUM LIKE COLLECTION OF AUTHOR KEVIN HOFFMAN. THIS IS THE ONE PUBLISHED IN HIS BOOK "SWORD OF HONOR & REGULATION" SEE PUBLISHED DESCRIPTION FROM THE BOOK. Confederate Marshall Cavalry Saber with Wood Scab -2 Kraft & Marshall - both made this pattern with little difference in quality, design or workmanship. It is rumored that a roman numeral appears between the mounts on the Marshall scabbards. Manufactured: CSA Maker: Marshall, Kraft KGK Year: Civil War Model: Cavalry, Enlisted Size: - Condition: Marshall Cavalry Saber with Wood Scabbard. Marshall of Atlanta, GA. Is known to have made these wood scabbards. Sword has 33-3/4" blade with unstopped, fuller. The blade is gray with no sugnifigant dings or rust --just dirt. Hilt is Brass with 3-branches still showing original finish work file marks. The grip is leather covered wood, some showing though with single iron wire wrap. Scabbard is wood and pinned with copper. Mounts are sheet iron / tin with brass bands. Drag is sheet iron. Kraft, Goldschmidt & Kraft (KG & K) of Columbia, SC is also thought to have made this style sword.
