Confederate Bowie Knife w/Scabbard Virginia Cavalry

Description:
A fine and rare original Confederate Bowie knife with its original leather scabbard. I acquired this knife from the family of their Confederate ancestor who carried it in the war. This is a massive bowie measuring overall 19 3/8 inches with a 14 inch clip point blade. The knife has a very large guard and it was uniquely fitted to the turned walnut handle, pomel and blade. The blade is heavy and sharp and was made for a combat weapon. The leather scabbard remains in one piece and is tattered in several spots. Hand sewn and looks to have had a leather strap at the top on both sides when it was made. This is a Virginia made knife from the period and a Virginia Cavalryman carried it.
