Massachusetts Officer's Non-Regulation British Pattern 1827 Steel Hilt Sword and Scabbard with uncommon etching. At first glance this sword looks like a common Peterson 75 style sword with Iron cut out hilt showing an eagle and "US", but it is only when you look more closely at the etching do you realize what a special sword it is. Etched on the blade is the seldom seen Massachusetts State seal, with a cannon and soldier on one side, and a sentry and camp scene on the other. In some of the recesses you can see remnants that show that at one time the blade had a gold wash applied. In its prime, this must have been a stunning blade made for a high-ranking Massachusetts officer. Now the blade is graying and the reverse tip has some dark spots from old rust, but the etching remains strong and beautiful. If you collect Massachusetts items, you'll need this unique sword in your collection. Please take a look at all the photos as they provide the best description.
