Swiss Model 1842 Pioneers Sawtooth Gladius Short Sword Friebourg

Description:
This is an early Swiss Model 1842 Pioneers Sawtooth short sword marked on the Ricasso with the shield of the Canton of Friebourg, Switzerland and Wester & Co. Solingen, numbered "29" on the crossguard. This is a rugged neoclassical 'Gladius' style sword. It measures 26" overall with a 20 1/4" un-fullered blade with a sharp sawtooth edge that is in very good condition, mostly bright with carbon staining and some isolated areas of pitting. The handle, pommel and crossguard are one piece having a 4" wide guard with the classic concentric circles on either side. It comes in a brass tipped and throated leather scabbard Marked "35" that dried and somewhat crazed leather with a few rough spots on the edges. A early Swiss sword in very good condition.
