Roger Rule's French Armoire Gun Cabinet
Description: SOLD *** Roger Rule’s French Armiore Gun Cabinet For Sale: Roger Rule, Author of The Rifleman’s Rifle, is selling his favorite gun cabinet, an authentic French Armoire made ca. 1890 as a Louis XV Revival piece. This is a double armoire measures 8’1” high, 55” wide and 17 ½” outside depth. The author purchased this armoire which is in 99% condition, and converted it for his gun collection. He was able to do it without damaging the integrity of the antique, inserting linings with English pool table green wool to surround his rifles and shotguns and added a light that can be easily removed if someone wanted to convert it back to the original double armoire. A concealed electric dry-rod is under the lowest handgun shelf to keep humidity under control. Two storage drawers are under the handgun shelves behind the doors when closed. The lock works well and the original key is included. At the same time Mr. Rule used this cabinet, his home was secured with a monitored burglar alarm system and if he would leave home for any length of time, the guns were relocated to a vault in a concealed area of his home. The main purpose of this lovely piece of furniture was to allow the owner to easily view his guns in his library home office, at any time day or night. He would say “it is like having my money and playing with it too.” He felt his collection was too handsome and rare to hide in a safe where most “safe queens” get marred from pulling them in and out, slightly bumping into each other and are hard to view easily. In 2014, a friend offered him $8,000 for it, saying the antique alone was worth $5,500. Tempted, thinking he might go ahead and replace it, he discovered nearly all of the French double armoires on ebay were a minimum of 24” in depth and would stick out too far in his room. Today, ten years later, that friend is no longer with us and the author is moving permanently to Hawaii. this is such a lovely piece of furniture, your wife would let you keep your guns in your master bedroom or your living room. For sale: $5,500 or best accepted offer. Buyer pays shipping, or buyer can arrange to have it picked up in Oakwood, Georgia, 30542. These French armoires do break down for amazing shipping savings. 6/9/2024 Price slashed to $4,500. Seller is the author of The Rifleman’s Rifle and will furnish a Letter of Provenance that this beautiful gun case is from his collection. Call Roger 808-989-1863 Hawaii time.
