WALNUT DISPLAY CASE
"RIFLE AND TABLE NOT INCLUDED
Description: WALNUT DISPLAY CASE Built by Brad Van Horn in December 2020 Contact Information: Email; bvanhorn314gmail Cell Phone number: 707-333-3245 Home Phone number : 707-647-1837 This walnut display case is specifically designed to accommodate (but not limited to ) a Browning .22 semi-automatic rifle that were designed by John M. Browning about 100 years ago (this example is one of two I built as I own a 1970 Belgium one, grade 3, with exquist engraving by F. Marechal). These rifles are just 37” long so the interior dimensions are as follows : 41-5/8” long X 10-1/2” wide X 3-5/8” deep (add 3/4” to all 4 sides to get exterior dimensions) The walnut has been milled to 3/4” thick, and the east side Indian rosewood (1/4”) plywood is finished on both sides mainly for stability purposes. Attached on the backside is what’s known as a French cleat, made from 1/2” thick baltic birch plywood, stamped , pre drilled,, counter-sunk to place horizontally on wall where studs are placed 12’, 16’, or 18’ on center. The French cleat for your wall is inside the case, as is 3 screws, torx driver bit for your easy installation, and for strong/secure wall mount, as the case weights over 20lbs. All the wood has been sanded to 25000 grit and finished with one coat of each of the following ODIES products: OIL,WOOS, BUTTER, and WAX. ODIES is my current favorite product to use as its all natural, durable, expensive, but provides for a natural medium sheen/satin finish. GLUE (S) used: Titebond types 2&3 Wood . Silicone adhesive/sealant for the 1/4” laminated security/safety glass. Torsion Hinges: the high end hinges are especially functional as they will hold the heavy case lid open in any position desired, even when wall mounted. The lid is additionally held closed with a nice hasp one each end, with two decorative pad locks to keep the kids and honest people OUT! All included/attached, and the accessory pack of screws, locks and keys, etc… There’s a leather spacer/gasket treated with neatsfoot oil, between the lid and the case body. The leather lined gun stock and barrel supports are made from highly figured “crotch walnut” the snapcross the supports will secure the firearm in place particularly if the case is hung on a wall. These supports are drilled and attached in place form the backside of the case (not glue) , so if you need to reposition to remove/delete them, simply remove the screws, and re-locate or delete them. If you keep them as is your may wish to release the screws , and add some wood glue for added strength. No expense was spared on this case or others I’ve made PRICE: $1,350 plus add $70.00 for shipping and insurance. Any questions, don’t hesitate to call, email or text me please Custom orders upon request . Thank you, Brad Van Horn. Continued: Jan.2021 As I’ve renewed my interest in leather work, and first in with woodworking, I decided to hand (saddle ) stitch 2 layers of leather tighter to make holddowns for the stock and barrel supports. Line 24 snaps, on Herman oak leather with a soft, sheepskin liner is used, and simply finished qhit olive oil. A bit 3/4” felt is provided in the packet to stick on to bottom of holddow straps, in the center section if you wish. Note that some felts are already attached on some of my displays cases. This is a long winded explanation of this build but im passionate about all the work I do. Another note: I also dig blown up leather carving of the beautiful engravings seen on both sides of the receiver of this grade #3 .22 Browning riffle. I typically inlay those images in highly figured “crotch” walnut. Any images can be carved from a simple photo from smart phone. Just send me the photo and we discuss sizes and cost. Again Thanks for the interest and looking. Brad Van Horn SOLD Rifle Caliber: .22 Long Rifle |
