49rh REGIMENT VIRGINIA VOLs CSA Belt Plate
Description: I have an update on the information about the origin of this plate. This is NOT a Parsley Brass product though they are the only company that reproduces a copy of this. The zinc master was created about 40 years ago to make copy buckles for a N-SSA reenactment group of this same name, the 49th Regt, Virginia Vols, The zinc master was made from a photograph of an original by the founder of the Parsley Brass Company that he took to an Engineer to render into a plate he could reproduce. Apparently, he could not acquire the original. I spoke with someone in the 49th Reg reenactment group after sending them pictures of the fron and back to compare to a copy they had made by Parsley Brass. That person said it was very evident his copy and this plate had destinct differences in detail elements of construction. Parsley Brass is located in Virginia and this buckle came from an estate sale in Virginia Beach. Parsley is making one of their copies for me to compare directly with this. I will post comparison pictures of these when that arrives. This may in fact be the buckle that was photographed to creat the zinc master, the B7W picture below, used to make the copies. SOLD |
