JEAN TANAZCAQ PRAIRIE 1 & 2 TRUE HUNTSMAN'S WEAPON " "HUNTING DAGGER," OR "PIG STICKER" IN THE US
Description: Jean Tanazacq is one of the most illustrious French cutlery artisans. His productions all exude a very strong personality, superb ergonomics, and they are closer to a piece of art than a knife... Beautiful, powerful , and functional, these are real hunting knives also recognized as a true Huntsman's weapon. Tanazacq designed them for those hunters as he is more likely to understand the mindset of such people who buy and use such specialized blades. Also known as a " Couteau De Venerie," "Les Couteaux De Vautrait" "Hunting dagger" or as a 'Pig Sticker," as we called them in the USA. The unique blade shape is a combination of a classic design mixed with a dagger. In true European hunting traditions, hunting knives of this type are used to finish off the game so as not to prolong its suffering, as opposed to American hunting knives which are typically intended for skinning game after the kill. This model comes in two blade lengths 8-5/8" for the PRAIRIE 1 and 7-1/8" for its companion. Both knives are constructed and fitted with a combination of leather washers/micarta or can be had with micarta only, made from 1/4 " 440C steel stock, reinforced tip with a mirror polished blade. The solid brass pommel has two opening to tie up security laces, while both knives comes with a double brass guard for hand protection. Extra heavy-duty leather scabbard of the highest quality,( very few US makers offers such constructed leather scabbards today, that are very thick in their final manufacture, if not none). Free shipping USPS with tracking # U.S.A. only. Can be had only as a pair. French magazine is included with the sale. Superb set of two hunting knives Jean TANAZACQ model Prairie 1 & 2 Like new chocolate leather cases beautiful mirror polished blade, brass guard The knives and scabbard was made by Jean Tanazacq in the Ardennes in 1988 Bothblades are stamped with the wild boar emblem of the Ardennes THE MAGNIFICENT HUNTING KNIVES OF JEAN TANAZACQ Without a doubt, a line of knives that forever changed the outcome of the French custom cutlery, which was sleeping gently, despite some beautiful knives being made. When Jean Tanazacq designed the TRONÇAY 1 in late 1970’s which initiated the young cutler to launch his company ARDENNLAME in 1980, this model went on to revolutionize the French custom knife community of that time. The TRONÇAY 1 revived the forgotten aesthetics of the most beautiful European hunting knives. But its creator, a hunter since childhood and a metallurgical engineer by trade, immediately gave it the benefit of cutting-edge techniques with a blade that was both very robust and beautifully sharp, a shape which could not be seen anywhere, so much did it haunt the dreams of many collectors as well. This is the form idealized since the medieval dawn for hunters, and it was the ideal shape they had dreamed off. Double cross guard and stylized aquiline pommel, indestructible screw-down tang mount. To dress this handsome and strong companion, a sheath in his image, in thick tawny leather skillfully designed and carefully sewn. Tanazacq TRONÇAY I offers a wide range of field applications, while promoting a blade design that is both suited for hunting and skinning game. With an unprecedented, unparalleled line’s purity, a most unique design, a powerful lanceolate tip, a beautiful walnut handle with a slightly inclined profile being its distinctive features; it was a winner from the very beginning. Forty-two years later, it remains his best seller; it’s the model to have. When Tanazacq created the first prototype, it in turn branded him with a knife that would become his life’s work and his “Flagship” model. Most beautiful and pretty model from Tanazacq’s impressive line of hunting models. This is a straight knife,147 mm blade, guard and pommel in gilded brass, wrist thong, dark walnut-type wooden handle, leather sheath of the highest quality, through-the-tang assembly, and Tanazacq’s unique double screw system. Old blade markings from the start of production (1980s) with a wild boar logo, map of France, and Jean Tannazacq name/last across the ricasso, which makes such models highly sought today among collectors. This set of hunting-oriented knives manifests its unity with similar handles from one model to another. The origin of the Tronçay comes from a knife which was exhibited in the “Hunting” room of the Charleville Museum when it was at located at the “Vieux Moulin,” in the 1970s.Two remarkable points had struck Jean Tanazacq in this knife: The shape of the point, which is currently called “Bowie”, the back of which is concave. The date stamped using a hot punch confirmed 1780, nine years before the French Revolution. Tanazcaq intended to write an article supported by a photo to show how the Americans had invented nothing on this subject. When he returned with a kit several years later, someone had stolen said knife, much to the annoyance and chagrin of the museum curator. The name of this family of knives was borrowed from the oak forest, planted bY colbert until they matured. SOLD |
