Collins Legitimus No. 17 Bowie has the fancy early No 10 sheath with nickel plated tip and ball. The blade measures 9 3/4", which was considered a nominal length. The corrugated leather stacked handle measures a little over 4 1/2". 3 1/4 " brass guard. Dual fullered unsharpened false edge blade is nick free. Does have normal light age stains.
Perfect handle with nice patina on brass. Scabbard tip has a couple of light dents. This model dates to the early 1870's and sources say many saw service during the war with Spain and also the Boer War. This knife in this condition would add greatly to a high end collection. Good feel and very solid knife.
